THE ART of MASSAGE
Massage
is a healing art, which is not only physical, but also
psychological, and is different from physiotherapy.
Have you experienced soreness around the neck and shoulders,
lower back problems?
Are you stressed?
Do you have trouble falling asleep?
Does exercise leave your body aching for a couple of days?
The benefits of massage are extensive. The treatments
therapeutically affect our body systems.
· Relax tight and tense muscles.
· Relieve or prevent physical dysfunction and pain.
· Reduce overall stress.
· Help to prevent and improve scar tissue.
· Improve circulation, recovery time and immune system function.
· Maintain or rehabilitate physical function.
An increasing number of research studies show massage:
· Reduces heart rate
· Lowers blood pressure
· Increases blood circulation and lymph flow
· Enhances medical treatment by increasing endorphins
Having a
massage with Simon
Massage is a pleasant therapy. It may be intense but should not
be painful.
During Massage
1. Please remove your jewellery if related to the area of your
treatment.
2. Undressing is required at least to the area receiving
massage; underwear is worn at your discretion.
3. Your privacy is respected at all time and you are warmly
covered with a clean sheet; only the area being massage is
exposed.
4. Everyone is slightly different, and your feedback helps Simon
to adjust his technique for comfort and most benefits.
5. Please do not put up with pain and refer to the “1 to 10
Pressure Scale” (1 is gentle touch while 9 or 10 are painful)
and describe the pressure you received with a number.
6. Turning your cell phone off is suggested.
Benefit Fully from a Massage
1. Close your eyes.
2. Focus on your breathing. Breath naturally.
3. Allow your head and limbs to be lifted and moved by the
massage therapist. Do not try to help.
4. The less said during a massage, the better.
However, feel free to speak up if you feel uncomfortable, such
as pain, cold, hot etc.
5. Feel free to have a nap.
Which means you are enjoying and relaxing.
6. After massage, you needn’t get up immediately.
Lie still with your eyes closed, let yourself absorb whatever
you are feeling a few minutes longer.
Having regular massage can maintain and prevent muscular
problems and improve long-term health.
After Massage
If you have never received a massage before; or if it has been
more than a month since your last massage, you could experience
"after effects" of the massage. These "after effects" are
perfectly normal and should only last 12-18 hours. Some typical
symptoms are:
· Tiredness due to release of toxins encouraged by the treatment
and the initiation of healing energies, which require the body
to rest.
· Post-massage muscle soreness *
These symptoms are the result of massage making all body systems
function more efficiently, speeding up waste removal and the
elimination of toxins. Massage can also help rid an individual
of negative deep-held emotions.
With regular treatments and as the body starts to heal and
rebalance, these symptoms will subside.
* A good massage will help to flush toxins out of the muscles.
While excess lactic acid is typically present in sore muscles,
it is not the cause of the soreness itself. It is most commonly
believed that post-massage muscle soreness is due to:
· Tight muscles having been stretched and realigned
· Adhesions and scar tissues having been broken apart so new
tissue can form and lay down correctly
· Deep pressure having been applied to an injured muscle to
release spasm.
All such procedures help muscles to relax and heal. However,
they can also cause soreness the next day. Drinking lots of
water before and immediately after a massage can help reduce the
feeling of soreness.
After Care
1. Increase water intake to help maximize the elimination of
toxins.
2. Avoid alcohol or drinks, which contain caffeine, for at least
12 hours after the treatment. These will dehydrate your body
cells.
3. Have a good rest. Allow your body to heal and settle.
4. Apply heat - wheat bag, hot water bottle, hot shower or bath.
5. Stretch and exercise (24 hours after the treatment)
